Moving on to our second player spotlight, and this week is Calhoun County senior guard Josie Montgomery.

Josie is currently second all time in Calhoun County history in points scored and will be surpassing that record very soon. She also recently signed with Concord University to continue her basketball and golf career where she will be Majoring in Physical Therapy. Yes you heard that right she kills it on the court and the course.

Josie has played and lettered in Softball and volleyball along with Basketball and golf. So its safe to classify her as a multi sport athlete. Her hobbies include golf, basketball, and hitting the weight room.

Her interests include teaching herself how to play piano, baking, fishing, playing chess, hanging out with friends and family oh and we can’t forget taking naps. Her favorite athlete is none other than the NBA logo and fellow West Virginian Jerry West.

When asked why she started playing sports Josie told us, “ As the youngest of five kids I grew up watching my older siblings play sports. I always looked up to them and wanted to play with them. Once I was old enough, I was able to play and have been in love with playing basketball and other sports ever since.”

Then we got to ask Josie what kept her motivated to basketball and her response was nothing short of amazing. “I have always loved the competitive aspect of sports and academics, staying healthy and active, setting goals to be better than I was the day before. My siblings and especially my brother Sam, his friends and coaches always included me in playing basketball with them. After my brother Sam passed away in 2017, I dedicated my basketball career to him. He watches over me ever day, and I strive to be the best player and person that I can be in honor of him and his memory.”

Josie couldn’t name just one person as her role model as she has had countless people shape her into the person she is today. Her goals after graduation will be to obtain her undergraduate degree in Physical Therapy from Concord University and then continue on to achieve her doctorate.
