There has been a lot of talk since the player of the year award this season was given to two player. Here at WVSN we will be selecting one deserving player.
Player Of The Year
Kalissa Lacy (GW) Kalissa who won the state player of the year a season ago improved her game and had a very good season to cap off her career at George Washington. Kalissa averaged 23.1 points per game and led GW to a state semi final appearance. In her first tournament game against Woodrow this season Kalissa was on fire and ended the game with 37 points. She had a stellar high school career and now it’s time for her to head to Morehead State.
Freshman Of The Year
Finley Lohan also from GW stepped on the stage this season and definitely didn’t look like a freshman. She played above her years and definitely has a bright future ahead. She was a key piece to the lady Patriots success this season, she is a name to watch out for in WV girls basketball.
Team Of The Year
Huntington Highlanders. The lady Highlanders had an incredible season where it ended with them cutting down the nets in Charleston. The reason we selected them as our team of the year isn’t because they won it all, it’s because they were always together. Whether they were on the floor or on the bench they were always cheering for each other and supporting each other. That is the true definition of a team.
Coach Of The Year
There were a lot of great choices for this one and after some great conversations we have selected Pat Jones from Nitro. What Pat and his staff was able to do this season was nothing short of amazing. 18-1 overall record only loss came to AAAA Capital. They were able to beat the number 1 team in Fairmont Sr, number 2 team North Marion both in the state tournament and also added wins against number 3 St.Joe and number 5 Logan. A very successful season For the lady Wildcats. Pat brought this group of ladies together and achieved their goal of a state championship.
Stay tuned throughout the week for our girls all state selections for each classification.
