Day 2 Recap

After another long day today we finally come to the end of day 2 here in Charleston. We will go over some of the standout performers we have seen on day two.


Baylee Goins Nitro Sr Guard


Starting with the first game of the day we have Nitro standout and senior guard Baylee Goins. Baylee helped the wildcats take care of Midland Trail with a final of 63-28. Baylee had 16 points and also had 11 assists to propel the wildcats to a huge quarterfinal win and a date with North Marion in Fridays semi final matchup. Baylee can beat you in any aspect of the game no matter if its shooting the three or getting her teammates involved. Baylee is playing her best basketball and is primed to help Nitro to a state championship berth.



Kym Minnich Petersburg Sr Guard


One of the best games so far on either day thus far, Petersburg did just enough to get past Charleston Catholic by a final of 49-46. Kym helped the Vikings by chipping in 11 points and 12 rebounds. Petersburg overcame 32 turnovers to capture the victory. Petersburg now will play in the semi final round. Keep an eye out for Kym as the tournament goes on.


Karlie Denham North Marion Sr Guard


Denham had a huge game today in the quarterfinals against Hampshire. She helped the lady huskies to an 80-47 win over Hampshire. Denham led North Marion with 29 points 7 assists and 5 steals. North Marion now takes on Nitro on Friday morning for a chance at the state title.


Marley Washenitz Fairmont Sr. (Junior) Guard


WVU commit Washenitz started out hot against Lewis County and helped the polar bears to a comfortable 27 point win in the opening round against Lewis County. Washenitz did a little of everything adding 6 steals 5 assists and 2 blocked shots. Fairmont will now play Logan in the semi final game on Friday. She is a fun player to watch as she can knock down the three or beat you off the dribble and finish at the basket.


Skylar Davidson Sr Guard & Daisha Summers Junior Forward- Wyoming East


Davidson and Summers led Wyoming East to a comfortable 28 point win against Mingo Central in there opening round game. Davidson had a double double with 19 points and 10 steals, Summers chipped in with 12 points and 4 steals. Wyoming East is now slated to play (3) Petersburg in the semi final game. Wyoming East a physical scrappy team is looking to make a run to championship Saturday.




Abbie Myers Junior Guard & Peyton Ilderton Junior Guard Logan High School


Abbie and Peyton played a fantastic game last night against Pikeview to help the lady wildcats punch their ticket to the semifinal game on Friday. Abbie and Peyton combined for 36 points for the lady wildcats last night. Abbie also had 7 steals and Peyton had 4 steals and also had 4 assists. The lady wildcats no face off against top seed Fairmont Sr in the semifinal round on Friday. If Logan wants to pull the upset it will come down to these two young ladies.
