Day 1 in Charleston is officially in the books and it went according how you would expect. All higher seeds took care of business on day 1 to move into the semi finals. No March madness quite yet in Charleston.

We did however have some pretty big scoring outputs throughout the day. Natalie Smith(Nitro) started the scoring in the first game with 22 points and 19 rebounds to help the lady wildcats move past Pikeview and setup a showdown with a familiar foe in Wayne.

Kayli Kellogg for Morgantown helped lead her team in a victory over Greenbrier East with 21 points and 5 rebounds to help Morgantown advance to a showdown against (1) George Washington.

To close out the morning session the lady pioneers from Wayne knocked down 16 three pointers and cruised to a 75-38 win over Keyser. Addie Adkins lead Wayne with 24 points. Wayne heads to the semifinal matchup against Nitro beating them earlier this season.

Kicking off the evening session we had the 1 vs 8 matchup in class AAA with East Fairmont easily getting past the 8th seeded Weir by 25. Tarayn Myers lead the Bees with 15 points and 6 offensive rebounds.

Our second to last game was the 1 vs 8 matchup in class AAAA with the Lady Patriots from George Washington playing the 8 seed Lady Applemen from Musselman. George Washington took an 11 point lead at halftime and really turned it on in the second half by beating Musselman by 29 points. The big key for GW was the defense. The lazy patriots forced 30 turnovers against Musselman, and Finley Lohan lead the way for GW with 16 points and 12 rebounds. They move into the semifinals to face 4th seeded Morgantown.

Closing out day 1 is the 4 vs 5 matchup in class AAA with the 4th seed Lewis County taking on 5th seed Philip Barbour. This game started off like a track meet with 15 total points scored within the first few minutes. Lewis County took a 4 point lead into the half. Lewis found a way to finish and hold off Philip Barbour with a final of 53-42. Ella Pinkney lead the way for Lewis with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
