COVID-19 Impact On WV Sports

2020 has been a year that most people would probably like to forget. Honestly it has been a year like nobody has ever seen before and most likely never see again. The cancelling of some high school sports has been quite odd to say the least. I was in Charleston for the girls state basketball tournament when the call came down from Governor Justice which was something that nobody including the WVSSAC seen coming. Your heart goes out to these girls who worked so hard to get to Charleston but unable to finish their season and to see the heartbreak on their faces was tough to see from everyone involved.
Then COVID struck a blow against baseball and softball season and unfortunately it was not done there (not even close) the next victim it claimed was track and field.
Now turning to the fall sports (football. soccer, volleyball) with summer camps being cancelled because of the virus it hurts a lot of local high school kids to have the opportunity of being seen by numerous different college coaches. The recruiting "dead period" has been extended a couple times already which hurts these student athletes from getting their official/unofficial visits on campus and they are forced to do a virtual tour which I know is the last thing they expected when they look forward to playing at the next level. The conditioning portion is looking different this year as well where teams are only allowed to have one pod of players doing one drill, exercise, lifting weights, etc.
Will we see sports in the Mountain State this fall? Honestly only time will tell.
